Lauren Eduarda Leal Costa (born 13 September 2002), simply known as Lauren, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for American National Women's Soccer League club Kansas City Current and the Brazil women's national team.
Club career
In Brazil, Lauren played for AD Centro Olímpico and debuted as a professional for São Paulo.[2]
She also played for Spanish club Madrid CFF in Liga F, making 40 total appearances and reaching the quarterfinals of the 2021–22 Copa de la Reina de Fútbol.[3]
On 24 July 2023, NWSL club Kansas City Current acquired the right to sign Lauren from fellow NWSL club North Carolina Courage in exchange for $100,000 in NWSL allocation money and a 2024 international slot, and signed her to a contract through 2024 with an option for an additional year.[3][4][5]
International career
Lauren represented Brazil at the 2018 South American U-17 Women's Championship and the 2020 South American Under-20 Women's Football Championship. She made her senior debut on 20 September 2021.[6][7]
On 27 June 2023, Brazil named Lauren to its final 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup squad.[8] On 24 July, she made her World Cup debut in Brazil's opening group-stage match against Panama, which Brazil won 4–0.[9]
