Introduction

The Puritan Bennett 980 Ventilator has changeable filters that need to be replaced after each patient use, or after 15 days of continuous use of one patient. Here is the guide on how to replace these filters. There is no special skills or tools needed, just be sure to discard of the waste properly according to institutions protocols. This information was taken from section 3.5.3/pages 85-92 of the manual.

    • Do not begin process while patient is connected. Alarm will sound

    • If necessary, remove the expiratory limb (item 4) of the patient circuit from the exhalation filter.

    • Raise the exhalation filter latch to unlock (item 3).

    • Open the exhalation filter door (item 4).

    • Remove the existing filter. Dispose of properly as per institution’s guidelines on disposing hazardous waste.

    • Ensure filter is properly attached to ventilator

    • Only use filters designed for Puritan Bennett 980 Series Ventilator

    • Insert the new filter by sliding the filter along the tracks in the door. Ensure the from patient port (item 6) aligns with the cutout in the door and points away from the ventilator.

    • Note: The condensate vial (item 5) is removable for discarding accumulated liquid. Turn this vial clockwise to remove. Turn this vial counterclockwise to install.
