Introduction

If the camera of your Petcube Play 2 (identified by model number PP2OUS) is malfunctioning, use this guide to replace it.

The Petcube Play 2 comes with a built-in camera that can record and stream videos of your pet to your phone. A defective camera might lead to poor video quality, skipping, or recording failures.

Before using this guide, ensure that there are no connection issues between the Petcube, your Wi-Fi router, and your phone. The Troubleshooting Page covers connection and video quality-related issues and how to address them.

Ensure the Petcube Play 2 is turned off before beginning the replacement process.

    • Flip over the Petcube so the rubber bottom faces you.

    • Use an iFixit opening pick to pull up the rubber layer and expose the screws underneath.

    • Do not force the front panel off as it may crack and break.

    • Slide off the two covers, starting with the top plastic cover.

    • Slide out the internal assembly from the aluminum.

    • Once the internal assembly is removed, you should see a brass cylinder in the top left of the front face of the cube. At the top of that cylinder is a hole that leads down to a screw.

    • Remove it using a Phillips head size #1 screwdriver.

    • Flip the cube onto one of its sides to locate the pull tabs holding the two halves together.

    • Lift each of the five tabs using an opening tool to separate the two halves of the Petcube 2.

    • Disconnect the cable connectors to separate the two halves of the device.

    • Make sure to avoid pulling on the wires to prevent breaking them or the connectors.

    • Carefully release the three tabs and take out the motherboard.

    • Be gentle with the tabs as they will break under too much pressure.

    • Use a pair of tweezers to firmly grip the sides of the connector and pull straight away from the socket. Hold the tweezers closer to the connector to get a better grip.

    • If you're having trouble, try rocking the connector side-to-side to loosen it.

    • You can insert the arms of a pair of sharp tweezers into the cutouts and gently push the connector out of its socket.

    • To reconnect the cable, insert the connector into its socket and push on the edges until it's fully seated.

    • Use the Phillips #00 screwdriver to remove the three 1 mm screws securing the camera to the motherboard.

    • Remove the camera from the motherboard.
