Introduction

    • The HS210 has no protection against connecting the battery the wrong way round. Doing so blows the LDO voltage regulator that feeds the control electronics. Although the connector is keyed, reversed connection can still be made if forced. In my case, there was a brief spin-up of the fans and then no life at all.

    • The regulator is in a SOT-23 (3-pin) package (marked 3DTG on mine). It is conveniently located on the PCB topside just under the plastic body cover near the battery connector end. (You will need to temporarily remove the piece of sponge that serves to push the antenna wire up into the cover).

    • A search for the code reveals nothing but it seems to be a 3.0V regulator and can be replaced with TPS7A0530PDBZT or similar. Most 3.0V LDOs in a SOT-23 package AND with this pin-out will be suitable since the current draw of the electronics section will be low.

Conclusion
