Background

The Magellan-2200 Model 1 is an anesthesia machine used for measuring a patient’s lung functionality, helping operators diagnose breathing conditions in their patients. Made to be compact and flexible, this model is designed for use by military field hospitals, general civilian hospitals, office-based anesthesia and surgery centers of every description.

Weighing in at a maximum 100 LBS and utilizing 100% pneumatic power, the Magellan-2200 Model 1 is designed to be used with any patient monitoring system that the operator prefers to use or has available. Many users have transitioned to the updated Magellan-2200 Model 2 and Model 3 for their increased mobility, but operator manuals as recent as 2020 are still advertising factory repair for the Model 1, so there's no need to make the upgrade yet.

Physiologic monitoring of the operators choice may be employed as a separate, but necessary device. In standard use, the Magellan-2200 Model 1 may be used with a variety of face masks, endotracheal/tracheostomy tubes and other approved artificial airways that are a standard in any operating theater.

Identification

This model is designed as a simple to operate unit containing all modes and necessary components to deliver a basic anesthetic, including a mechanical ventilator and a single agent vaporizer. All of the safety systems required are employed onboard and easy to utilize.

The oxygen controls, intake, and canister storage are located on the back of the unit, easily identified being the only controls in the area. Looking at the unit head-on, one will likely see the ventilator system first, which constitutes the left half of the whole system. On the far left is the reservoir bag, which itself is connected to oxygen flow and the breathing mechanism. The breathing system sits inside an individual housing, equipped with gauges for the operator to read gas flow with.

The right half of the unit consists primarily of more gauges, the specific function and maintenance needs for each given in the operator manual. From right to left, there's a gauge for air, oxygen, auxiliary oxygen, as well as flow-meters for air and oxygen. Finally, a vaporizer is found on the right side of the unit, complete with its own controls and timer.

With a height and depth of 23 inches, width of 17 inches, the Magellan-2200 Model 1 may be mounted on its custom-made carrying case, a mobile trolley especially designed for the unit, other medical carts, or on a tabletop as the operator prefers (accessory/transport specifications to follow).
